Search features, published in the "advanced materials" journal, a system of polymer materials that could crash to become useful for connected systems. Small measuring system mikrokabsolace splinters 10 microns in diameter at the top of the line was operating as a circuit.
In the case of a crack, mikrokabsolace break open and release the metal liquid filling gaps, thus restoring the flow of electricity. Circuit system, if the hardware business, can reduce the need for manual repair.

The late former Apple CEO Steve Jobs continues to reel in the awards and recognitions even after his demise. This time, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences is set to honor Jobs with a posthumous Grammy, naming him a Trustees Award honoree.
According to a statement from the NARAS, Jobs will be honored for “his long-standing career of innovation” that helped “create products and technology to transform the way we consume music, TV, movies, and book.” Jobs is known, among other things, for his role in the creation of the iPod portable media device as well as in convincing major record companies to sell their music on the iTunes. The online retailer has sold over 16 billion songs since its launch on April 28, 2003.
The 2012 Special Merit Award will be presented at an invitation-only ceremony on February 11, 2012. A formal acknowledgment will also be made during the 54th annual Grammy Awards a day after.
Reaction over the announcement has been mixed. One reader on Mashable said that Jobs’ only innovation in the music industry is how songs are being sold, enabling iTunes users to buy individual tracks instead of whole albums back in the day. Another reader agreed, adding that the iPod is not the first portable media device around.
Meanwhile, fans of Steve Jobs were elated, but dismayed over the fact that he had to die before the Academy decided to award him with an honorary Grammy.

The introduction of the Apple iPad has revolutionized the erstwhile boring tablet computer market. This year, we see an explosion of iPad rivals who want to grab a slice of the sales pie, but only a few of them deserve to be called at par with the iconic tablet.
Apple iPad 2 – What the iPad has exceled, the iPad 2 has virtually perfected. It is thinner than its predecessor and features front and back cameras, FaceTime video chat, a faster processor, and 3G options for AT&T and Verizon subscribers. It has an easy-to-use interface, a very vast app catalog, and a long battery life. On the other hand, its downfall remains the same as the original iPad: a less-than-impressive screen resolution, mediocre photo quality, the lack of Adobe Flash, and the need to install adapters to a lot of ports.
Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime – If Android is your thing, the Asus Transformer Prime (pictured) is the best in the bunch. Compared to the iPad 2, this tablet is thinner and lighter, while still including microSD and micro-HDMI support. It features a clear 1080p screen resolution, an 8-megapixel camera with close-to-accurate color capture capability, and the ability to play games on HDTV and throttle CPU speeds to save battery life. Just be careful when attaching the keyboard dock.
Sony Tablet S – The much-anticipated tablet from Sony is well worth the wait. It advances the typical Honeycomb experience with exclusive apps, an ergonomic design, PlayStation certification for mobile gaming, DLNA video and music streaming, and an integrated IR universal remote control. For a Honeycomb-based tablet, however, the Sony Tablet S is kinda pricey.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 – This Android-based tablet is the closest you can get for a worthy iPad 2 rival. The Honeycomb-powered tablet is as thin and as light as the latest Apple tablet. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 comes with a 3-megapixel back camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, and a pair of powerful speakers. However, it lacks some ports and its plastic back gives off a weak impression.
Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet – Among the emerging batch of e-book/ tablet hybrids, the Nook from Barnes & Noble is the most worthy to be included in the list. Apart from a vast library of books and magazine, it comes with over 1,000 apps and is optimized for Netflix and Hulu Plus. And did we mention it has Flash support? The downside is that is that it does not provide full access to Android Market, as well as lack significant features such as Bluetooth, GPS, camera, and even video rental support.
When planning to buy a gadget, the laptop is most likely the first on the list. Choosing the right one, however, can be a challenge. Apart from the many models available in the market, you also have to consider your ideal screen size, performance specs, and even the price. As 2011 draws to a close, here are the most purchase-worthy laptops of the year.
Apple MacBook Pro (Fall 2011 edition) – Tech experts may tell you that Apple’s MacBook Pro is a smart investment, even at its slightly steep price. Not only it has a user-friendly experience, but also of its impressive performance for home and/ or office usage. The latest edition of MacBook Pro, released in Fall of 2011, has a slight CPU upgrade from its previous versions and makes a great starting point for any optional upgrades. While its trackpad and gesture controls remain among the best of the bunch, the device still lacks features some may find significant such as an optical drive, HDMI, Blu-ray, and USB 3.0.
MacBook Air (Summer 2011 edition) – This very thin, 13.-inch laptop has performance upgrades, such as the latest Intel CPUs and longer battery life, that make the most recent MacBook Air worthy to be suitable for maintream usage. The down side, however, is that its 128GB solid-state drive that is smaller than a standard hard drive, not to mention that it costs at least $100 more than the latest MacBook Pro.
Samsung Series 7 – If you are craving for a Windows-based laptop with MacBook Pro performance, the Samsung Series 7 Chronos 700Z5A-S03 (pictured) is the closest you can get. It equals the MacBook in terms of specs, power, design, and battery life, but it is at least $500 cheaper that the entry-level MacBook Pro. However, its large multitouch click pad is not as responsive to its Apple rival. Considering its hefty price tag, it lacks Blu-ray and a 1080p screen.
Toshiba Portege R835-P70 – Looking for a laptop that costs under $800? The 13-inch Toshiba Portege R835-P70 is the best option. It features a new Intel Core i5 CPU, Intel’s integrated graphics, and a battery life that almost lasts a day. Despite its impressive graphics performance, however, it is not gamer-friendly. This Toshiba laptop also lacks Bluetooth and mobile broadband connectivity, as well as a Blu-ray option.
HP Pavilion dm1z – The most recommended among the budget ultraportable category has got to be the 11-inch, AMD-powered HP Pavilion dm1z. A upgraded version of its former self, the new HP laptop comes with Beats Audio, a more efficient touchpad, and an updated AMD processor. The bad part is that its performance and battery life remain the same.
The Sims are back and this time they are now playable on your Apple device. A team of researchers at Osaka University has developed a six-legged insect robot that can perform moves that put some humanoids to shame.
The Asterisk robot weighs 4kg, measures 816mm wide and 78mm high. The Asterisk has been in development for around six years. The research team is looking for new tasks their robot can perform, like trying to make a cartwheel. Click the video to see Asterisk in action.

Ever wonder why GPS devices, especially those that arrived before the free GPS apps, are really expensive? It is because its propriety libraries and interfaces are created from scratch and that comes at a price. That will seem to change with an upcoming GPS device that runs on Android.
GPS manufacturer Holux and sporting map app make SatSki have partnered up to develop the All Sports GPS, a smartphone-like device that features multiple mapping tools for the sports-minded individual, a location and distance-focues interface, and a variety of live maps to choose from. Users can choose their mapping service, whether it is Google Maps, OVI, OpenStreetMap, and others.
This Android-powered GPS is also integrated with Facebook and Twitter, enabling users to share their coordinates to friends. Although it has Android as its OS, the device does not seem to provide access to other Google services such as Gmail or the App Market. It does, however, include an All Sports App Market that contain some useful apps.
The introduction of the All Sports GPS makes you wonder whether the erstwhile GPS leaders such as Garmin and TomTom would also follow the path to assimilation with Android. No word yet on availability and pricing, even a detailed specs list is nada, but that will come later for sure.

That is why there are gadget trends that are recently emerging that may be expecting a promising year ahead. Here are the top gadget trends for 2011 which may likely continue up to the New Year and may not be going anytime soon.
Tablet PC’s
You can say that this year may be considered as the year of the Tablet PC. With the emergence of the Apple iPad, what was once just a niche in the gadget market has suddenly become an established and exciting one. All of a sudden, major gadget makers are clamoring for a share of the market pie by coming out with their own tablet models. And with the demand coming from consumers, this new tablet trend will only continue to grow and expand well into 2012.
Android Devices
The smartphone market has long been the hold of the Apple iPhone in terms of popularity. But that has steadily changed in the recent years. The entry of the Android devices has slowly tilted the balance of market share away from popular Apple iDevices. More and more people are looking into Android devices as a credible and sometimes even a better alternative. The trend of Android devices getting more and more popular will even become more noticeable in 2012 and shows no sign of ever fading away in the near term.
HD Devices
When it comes to visual entertainment, the world is now being viewed in high definition. It seems that devices are going the HD route, from new TV models to camcorders. And it seems that people are no longer interested if a device is not in HD in any way. The shift of this standard trend in video will only further make HD devices more and more popular in the next year.
DSLR cameras may be all the rage this year, but consumers continue to purchase compact digital cameras because of its ease of use and a relatively lower price range. From hundreds of digital compact cameras in the market, it is hard to choose the one that fits the consumer’s needs. A group of imaging specialists over at Vienna University of Technology has come up with a hyperspectral camera using materials that are easily accessible, including duct tape. The project, called Computer Tomography Image Spectrometer (CTIS), attaches a hyperspectral camera lens made of stock SLR glass, a gel diffraction filter, PVC pipe, and duct tape, into an ordinary DSLR camera.
For the uninformed, hyperspectral imaging is a photography method that captures a significantly greater amount of electromagnetic spectrum compared to a regular photo. It is used for a variety of purposes, including night vision as well as identifying mineral deposits from long distances. However, developing a hyperspectral imager does not come cheap, thus this project provides an inexpensive alternative.
The CTIS takes hyperspectral images by slipping light rays into spectral bands using a diffuser and recording them into a camera in HDR mode, in this case the Canon EOS 5D Mark I. The prototype can capture a spectral resolution of up to 4.89nm in a 120 x 120 pixel area, but it requires a longer exposure time compared to its commercial counterparts. The research team is in the process of reducing its weight while increaing the aperture for a shorter exposure time.

Apart from searching for websites, Google.com can help you browse for products, provide dictionary definitions, convert measurements and currencies, and even provide solutions to simple arithmetic problems. But the popular search site is apparently not done yet, as it recently launched a new functionality: as a graphing calculator.
Math geeks can simply input a mathematical function into the search bar, or even multiple functions as long as they are separated by commas. Press Enter and you instantly get a graph, which can be explored more closely by zooming in and out as well as panning across.
According to Google, the new function “covers an extensive range of single variable functions including trigonometric, exponential, logarithmic, and their compositions.”
For starters, try typing “sin(x)” on the search bar and see the resulting graph.
An Israel-based startup introduces a unique gadget that creates a social network of relevant people who carry the same device. The magnetU, which the company of the same name describes as a “proximity networking” device, compares your profile to fellow users within short distances. When two magnetU’s find a match, they alert their respective owners through SMS or mobile app. The alert also informs the user how “strong” the match is as well as whatever contact information the device owners have allowed in their privacy settings.
The devices also allow physical interactivity with each other. For instance, when two users press their respective “cheers” button and knock their magnetU’s together, the gadgets automatically send each other friend requests on all of their social networks.
Users can also change the profiles they display depending on the situation. You can display your “social profile” while looking for an ideal date at a bar or a “business profile” when searching for a preferred business partner.
Since magnetU relies on crowdsourced data, there has to have a lot of users to experience its full effect. Another potential drawback is that the device is used separately from your smartphone.
The magnetU is set to launch in about six weeks, according to source.

With USB flash drives getting more and more popular, people are using them as the most convenient means to store all their files. But with this convenience and easy access can have some limits as it can be easy for other people to get even to your own personal and private files, if they are not protected when stored into a flash drive. For those who may wish to have an ultra secure flash drive of sorts, they can have this interesting Crypteks USB Drive.
The Crypteks Ultra Secure USB Drive may be unlike any other USB flash drives out there in terms of data protection. It comes with a special cryptex casing, the one popularized in the movie “The Da Vinci Code”. The housing is a solid aluminum alloy cylinder with several twisting lettered tumblers. Users need to first get the right tumbler alignment in order to get access to the USB flash drive housed inside it. This first level protection is quite hard enough to crack since it can have 14,348,907 potential combinations.
And in the case that someone may be lucky enough to crack the combination to the cryptex housing, the flash drive is still protected with 256-bit AES hardware encryption. It also comes with a secondary password that also needs to be cracked to get access to the files. The Crypteks USB Drive is available in 4GB, 6GB and 16GB flash drives. It is expected to be available anytime this December and is expected to cost US$130 to US$160 for the 8GB and the 16GB flash drive, respectively.

Rapper 50 Cent graced the people in downtown Manhattan of his presence as he presented his very own line of headphones. As chronicled by this blog for several months, the headphones–namely Street by 50 and Sync by 50–are products of Fifty-owned SMS Audio.
